A former insurance broker has been put behind bars for selling policies to customers despite having his license revoked.

The Friendswood Police Department received a report on March 3 regarding possible theft and fraud involving an insurance scam.

The victim reported they have been purchasing their insurance through Edgar Peralta of Peralta Insurance Brokerage LLC, for several years including homeowner, auto, and flood insurance. In May 2024, the victim was advised to pre-purchase these policies for the upcoming year, with the promise of significant savings.

However, after a traffic stop in January 2025, it was discovered that the insurance policy on the vehicle was invalid. Investigators said the victim contacted the insurance company and was informed the auto policy, homeowner, and flood insurance policies had been canceled due to no payments being made.

The victim shared records with police of wired payments sent to Peralta for the policies, which he was supposed to have paid; but the money was never sent to the insurance companies. Further investigation later revealed Peralta’s state license to sell insurance had been revoked in June 2024, yet he continued to fraudulently broker insurance policies.

Edgar Peralta has since been charged with theft through the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office. He turned himself into the Friendswood Police Department last Thursday.

Friendswood PD has reported this incident to the Texas Department of Insurance, which is conducting its own investigation. Police said Peralta could face further criminal charges.
