Wesley Adam Johnson, 33, Ashley’s husband, was riding directly behind her.
At the same time, an unknown red Ford or Toyota sedan was traveling northbound in the number one lane of State Highway 6 South.
Nelson failed to yield the right of way to the sedan while crossing all lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk, which resulted in the vehicle striking her.
The driver of the red sedan, later identified as Shantia Howard, 28, fled the scene without stopping to render aid. Nelson was later confirmed deceased at 4:38 a.m. due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Howard was later found and booked in the Harris County Jail for failure to stop and render aid.
