At around 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Harris County Pct. 4 deputies responded to a call reporting a disturbance involving a weapon.
The caller reported that she was in an argument with a family member who had discharged a gun into the ground. The family member was later identified as 24-year-old Kyren Lacy.
When deputies arrived at the scene, Lacy was gone. A description of his vehicle was broadcast to local authorities.
At 11:35 p.m., Lacy’s vehicle was spotted. Deputies attempted to pull him over, but he sped off, leading to a chase that lasted several miles. Lacy’s car crashed a short time later near the 25900 block of Aldine Westfield.
Deputies attempted to arrest Lacy but learned he had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
HCSO Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Units investigated the incident. Preliminary information indicates Lacy shot himself during the chase before the vehicle crashed.
A handgun was recovered from the interior of the vehicle. A review of the Pct. 4 units’ body camera and in-car dash-mounted video did not indicate any shots were fired after the pursuit ended.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences will conduct an autopsy on Lacy. There is also an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of Lacy’s death, as is standard for a death that happens during an attempted arrest.
