Shooting near Wisdom High School sends 2 HISD students to hospital in southwest Houston

Two Wisdom High School students are in the hospital after a shooting near the school on Wednesday evening.

The incident happened around 5:24 p.m., and both teens were injured and taken to the hospital.

Before the shooting, HISD police say two brothers were walking along Beverly Hill Street when a black Chevrolet Tahoe that was parking in the school parking lot backed out and started driving slowly behind the brothers.

Police say someone got out of the car and fired at the two.

One of the brothers, who is not an HISD student, ran in one direction away from the scene.

Police say a 16-year-old sophomore at Wisdom High School ran back towards the school after being grazed by a bullet that injured his knee.

Another student, a 18-year-old junior, who was not involved in the incident, was shot in the shoulder.

HISD officials say their injuries aren’t life-threatening and both are expected to be ok.

The shooting prompted a brief lockdown during after-school hours, but all other students and staff are safe. Once the situation was under control, the lockdown was lifted.

Police are trying to find out why the brothers were likely targeted.

The school will resume its normal schedule Thursday, and the campus is secure. Extra police will be on campus Thursday.
