The shooting happened at around 9:23 p.m. Monday in a parking lot near a King Dollar store on Northwest Freeway.

According to the Houston Police Department, the ex-boyfriend arrived at the unsanctioned parking lot event scene, where he saw his former girlfriend with a new man. He shot her multiple times and then turned his attention to her new beau, chasing him through the parking lot before shooting him once in the back.

He then returned to his ex-girlfriend, shooting her several more times before turning the gun on himself. First responders with the Houston Fire Department later pronounced both the shooter and the woman dead at the scene.

Before HPD authorities arrived, a deputy with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office was flagged down to the parking lot, where he heard the gunfire. He noticed the wounded new boyfriend and helped make sure he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is expected to survive. The deputy was also the first to discover the two people who didn’t survive.

HPD has not released the identities of those involved, but they confirmed that the shooter was a 27-year-old man, and the two victims appeared to both be in their 20s.
