Cleverly titled “Sidewalks 4 Precinct 4″ Commissioner Lesley Briones and her team are expected to complete 50 miles of sidewalks through its program, which launched in March.
According to Precinct 4′s website, the program “came out of a data-driven analysis that started last year. It will fill the gap between ‘sidewalks to nowhere,’ across 406 sq. miles.”
The program will be done in phases with multiple construction crews working simultaneously at various locations for about 4-8 weeks. Each location though, is based on priority to help “connect families to their neighborhood schools, METRO bus stops, local parks, hospitals, and shopping centers,” the program’s website explained.

Residents in the area will be given notice about the construction and can see which locations will get sidewalks by looking at their interactive map on their website.
“Ultimately, the program is not about laying concrete for sidewalks,” Pct. 4 explained in its website. “It’s about ensuring families can thrive with safer paths for children to get to school, efficient routes to hospitals and healthcare providers, walkable shopping destinations, connected parks, and solidified routes where natural footpaths already exist.”
