Doorman shot and killed outside southeast Houston nightclub; suspect on the run

HOUSTON – A nightclub doorman is dead, and another man is recovering after a shooting overnight in southeast Houston.

It happened just before 2 a.m. outside a bar off the 4900 block of Telephone Road.

According to Houston police, a man got into an argument with the doorman at the front entrance. Investigators say that man backed away, pulled out a gun and fired. The doorman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man who was nearby was also shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Officers say the shooter ran away from the scene heading north on Telephone Road. He’s described as a Hispanic man in his early 20s with a short buzzcut.

The scene just cleared within the last hour, but investigators are still working to track down the suspect. No new information has been released, but police are reviewing surveillance footage and asking anyone with information to contact HPD or Crime Stoppers.
