The Mega Millions lottery is set to undergo significant changes, starting with a ticket price increase from $2 to $5 each.
While this may not be welcome news for some players, officials assure that the increase will lead to larger jackpot sizes. Jackpots will now begin at $50 million—a substantial rise from the current starting point of $20 million.

The average jackpot is projected to exceed $800 million, compared to around $450 million previously. Additionally, the odds of winning the jackpot will improve to one in 290.5 million. This enhancement is partly due to a reduction in the number of balls in the gold Mega Ball pool, which will decrease from 25 to 24 balls.
Officials also noted that the odds of winning any prize will see a slight improvement, now standing at one in 23. The last drawing under the current rules is scheduled for Friday, April 4. If no one wins the jackpot, it will roll over into the revamped game.
