A year after tragic death, mother of Romeo Jimerson seeks justice and answers

HOUSTON – Over a year has passed since the tragic death of Romeo Jimmerson, whose lifeless body was found dumped in Chambers County.

His mother, Queen Bell, is now facing the painful reality of preparing for son’s second birthday without him present.

What makes this case even more shocking is that Romeo’s own father, Corbin Rocio, is charged with his son’s murder, while Melvin Carraway, the man who allegedly helped dispose of the body, is already out on probation.

Bell shared her heartbreak and disbelief over the tragic loss.

“I don’t know what happened. And, the unknown is the hard part,” Bell said, as she described the overwhelming grief of losing her son.

Romeo Jimerson, a 29-year-old graphic designer and avid gamer, was more than just a son to Bell—he was her best friend. He was also training to become a private investigator. At the time of his death, Romeo was living with his father, Corbin Rocio.

On Oct. 13, 2023, Romeo’s body was found along I-10 in Chambers County, sparking a deep investigation.

Authorities quickly determined that foul play was involved in his death, indicating that the young man had met a violent end. As detectives dug deeper, they uncovered troubling connections to Romeo’s father, Corbin Rocio, and his friend, Melvin Carraway.

Both men were charged with tampering with a corpse, and Corbin Rocio was additionally charged with his son’s murder.

Queen Bell expressed her confusion and anger, particularly about the actions—or lack thereof—by those responsible.

“Even if it was an argument, why couldn’t you call 911?” she asked. “Even if you saw your baby lifeless on the floor, why couldn’t you dial 911?”

Bell’s pain is compounded by the fact that she still has no concrete answers as to what led to her son’s tragic end.

Her frustration only intensified when she learned that Melvin Carraway, who accepted a plea deal in the case, was released on probation less than two years after her son’s death. Bell believes that justice has not been served and that such a lenient sentence is unacceptable.

“I wasn’t told prior that the offer was there or anything, for him to be released. I don’t even know this man. He could be walking around me right now, and I don’t know him,” Bell said, describing the lack of communication and transparency that has left her in the dark.

As the case continues, Bell is determined to ensure that her son’s death is not forgotten.

“The P’s need to go away: probation and parole—all of that. If you do the crime, you do the time, period” she passionately stated, voicing her desire for full accountability.

With a pretrial hearing scheduled for July 10, Bell holds onto hope that justice will eventually prevail.

She says all that she wants is answers, and above all, she wants the people responsible for her son’s death to face the consequences of their actions.

As the second anniversary of Romeo Jimerson’s death approaches, his mother continues to fight for justice. The unanswered questions about his death weigh heavily on her heart, but Queen Bell remains steadfast in her quest for truth.
