Looking for a way to celebrate Easter and give back? The Blue Bird Circle’s annual Easter basket and egg sale benefits children in need at Texas Children’s Hospital, and these unique handmade items are sure to make your holiday even more special.
The Blue Bird Circle has been crafting beautiful, handcrafted Easter baskets for over 100 years.
Gail Jacobson and Liana Hillandale from the Blue Bird Circle stopped by KPRC 2 to talk about the tradition, the amazing volunteers who help make it happen, and the incredible impact these baskets and Easter eggs have had on children battling neurological disorders.
Founded in 1923, the Blue Bird Circle is a women’s organization that’s been providing hope, love, and healing to children with neurological disorders. Through their tireless dedication, they’ve helped raise millions of dollars for Texas Children’s Hospital.
“It’s a circle of love. We’ve been doing this for over a century, and we continue that tradition today,” said Jacobson.
These aren’t your typical Easter baskets. Each one starts with a Blue Bell ice cream container – yes, you read that right – and is then lovingly decorated with individual petals and flowers. The process takes about an hour and involves 18 steps to complete. The baskets have been a tradition of the Blue Bird Circle for years, with volunteers getting started on these beauties as early as August.
And the best part? The baskets are only $20 each, with all proceeds benefiting the Pediatric Neurology clinic.
The Blue Bird Circle’s annual Easter egg sale features handcrafted ceramic eggs, each designed by volunteers. These are perfect for decorating your home and come with the added bonus of supporting the same great cause.
“We made 1,150 of these ceramic eggs this year,” Hillandale shared, “and they sell out fast!”
If you’re interested in getting your hands on one of these baskets or Easter eggs, there are several places around Houston that sell them, including Brier Grove Pharmacy, Buchanan’s Native Plants, and Brookwood Community. Or, you can visit the Blue Bird Circle’s headquarters on West Alabama.
