VIDEO: High winds cause dust storm, extreme fire danger in Texas Panhandle

AMARILLO, Texas – As a storm system takes shape, dangerously high winds have caused a dust storm and reduced visibilities in the Texas Panhandle.

Video from the Amarillo area shows exactly the dangers drivers are facing as visibilities are drastically reduced by the blowing dust, making traveling dangerous.

Some wind gusts have measured up to 80 mph and numerous tractor trailers have reportedly been blown over.

Some structures, such as billboards, have also been damaged by the high winds.

Dust in Lubbock (NBC News)

In Lubbock, a thick layer of dust has covered the city. as seen on tower cameras in the area.

The high winds have led to extreme fire danger in the area and authorities are concerned any fire that sparks could quickly be blown out of control.
