‘We’re going to be here all night’: Major fire guts SW Houston office building

HOUSTON – Firefighters responded to the scene of a three-alarm fire at an office building at 6689 West Sam Houston Parkway.

This is near the intersection of Bellaire Blvd.

Sky2 captured flames beaming out of the windows of the building as firefighters worked to tackle the blaze. The burning building is listed as the address for Tran Law Group and Metro City Bank.

There have been no reports of injuries at this time. Authorities say one firefighter was checked out for possible heat exhaustion, but appears to be ok.

HFD Deputy Chief Bryan Sky-Eagle says they were called around 5:30 p.m. about a fire in an electrical panel near a stairwell in the building.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke. They attempted to fight the fire inside the building, but the second floor became very hot, forcing them out of the building.

About 45 minutes later, a second alarm was called followed by a third alarm shortly afterwards. Over 120 firefighters responded to fight the fire.

Shifting winds caused windows to break and the fire spread throughout the building. The fire also caused walls to buckle as it broke through the roof. Firefighters anticipate the building will collapse at some point.

“We’re going to be here all night,” Sky-Eagle said.

At around 8:15 p.m., parts of the exterior wall of the upper floor did collapse and was captured by Sky 2 Chopper.

Sky-Eagle also said CenterPoint will be cutting the power around the immediate area as crews battle the fire and it could be out through Thursday morning.

Sky-Eagle noted water supply has been a challenge as crews have had to get water from about 1/8 of a mile away.

Sky-Eagle’s main message is to stay away from the area around Beltway 8 and Bellaire Blvd until the fire is over.
