HOUSTON, Texas – The man accused of sexually assaulting a University of Houston student at knifepoint has been indicted by a grand jury this week.
The federal grand jury indicted 40-year-old Eric Latroy Brown on three charges, two aggravated sexual assault charges and one charge of aggravated robbery in connection to the Feb. 7 attack.
The federal indictment comes nearly a month after Brown was captured following a 10-day manhunt. Brown is currently in jail on a $15 million bond.

Brown, who is believed to have been homeless at the time of the attack, approached a 21-year-old student at UH’s Welcome Center Parking Garage, forced her into her vehicle, and then sexually assaulted her at knifepoint.

Brown then took off with $30 and the student’s mail, according to court records.
Brown was initially arrested after UHPD officers found him acting erratically near the same parking garage about six hours after the incident. He became aggressive during the arrest and had to be tased before being taken into custody, according to records, on charges of assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest.
However, Brown was mistakenly released from jail less than 24 hours after the attack on Feb. 8, and charges of the sexual assault didn’t get filed until Wednesday, Feb. 12.
Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said mistakes were made in the handling of the case, specifically with paperwork submitted by police and a breakdown in communication between his office and officers. He promised to make changes and ensure the error didn’t happen again.
Brown was eventually arrested after being spotted riding a METRORail.
