A man was shot and killed late Tuesday night near a Houston hospital after a confrontation with his wife’s family, authorities said.
The incident happened around 11:20 p.m. in the 5400 block of Kelley Street, just a block from Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. According to investigators, the man and his pregnant wife, who were experiencing homelessness, had gone to the hospital due to a medical issue.

While at the hospital, the husband reportedly became concerned that his wife’s family might call the police on him due to possible outstanding warrants. Believing they were trying to separate them, he left, and his wife followed.

As they walked away, the woman’s grandmother pulled up in a white car and attempted to get her granddaughter to leave with her. The woman initially got in but changed her mind when she realized her husband was not welcome in the vehicle. She got out as the grandmother began to drive away, and her husband tried to help her.
Moments later, the woman’s uncle arrived, walked up to the couple, and fired a single shot into the husband’s torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, along with other family members, remained at the location as authorities arrived. Police said they are reviewing surveillance footage and gathering statements as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not released any names, and no arrests have been made at this time.
