A devastating fire engulfed the home of a Cleveland area family, leaving them with almost nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Dawnyale Littlejohn told KPRC 2 her husband and two young children narrowly escaped with their lives but lost three of their four dogs to the smoke and flames.
“It’s unbelievable. It’s just, It’s surreal to look at this.” Littlejohn said.
The fire broke out on a Monday evening while LittleJohn , her husband, and their two young children, ages 3 and 4, were at home.
Littlejohn said they believe the fire was sparked by the children’s Power Wheels Jeep charging on the front porch.
Her husband was hurt as he ran to safety and is currently hospitalized at UTMB Galveston with second-degree burns covering 30 percent of his body.
LittleJohn said she and her children are currently staying with family but expressed the need for a temporary place to stay and furniture donations.
“I need a short-term place for me and my husband to be at home,” she said. Despite the loss of irreplaceable items, including the only picture of her deceased mother, Dawnyale remains hopeful for the future. As the Littlejohn family navigates this challenging time, they are grateful for the support they have received and continue to seek assistance to rebuild their lives.
