LA PORTE, Texas – A physical education teacher for La Porte Independent School District has been charged with possession of child pornography.
Kody Smith, 36, who is currently not in custody, is facing three counts of child pornography after officers said they found multiple files of child pornography in his possession.

According to court documents, Smith downloaded more than 70 images and videos of child exploitation material dating back to 2023.
When police executed a search warrant of Smith’s home, they collected two phones and two laptops, showing what court documents described as the most “egregious files” of the 77 total.
While speaking with Smith, officers said he admitted to downloading child pornography for nearly three years, using both his personal email address and different KIK user IDs.
Smith, who is a father of three, is also a gym teacher at Bayshore Elementary School. KPRC 2 has since reached out to La Porte ISD for a statement regarding Smith’s charges.
Records show Smith is currently under review by the Texas Education Agency.
