Houston Rockets emerging star Amen Thompson will be sidelined for multiple games after he suffered an ankle injury in Saturday night’s blowout win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Despite having a significant lead in the midway point of the fourth quarter, the Rockets kept Thompson on the floor. While attempting a midrange jumper, his left foot landed awkwardly on the foot of Pelicans’ center Karlo Matkovic. He would be helped to the locker room with an obvious limp.

Following the game, Rockets’ head coach Ime Udoka said he didn’t have an immediate update on Thompson’s condition, but the replay appeared to show that he rolled his ankle.

Sunday night, ESPN senior NBA Insider Shams Charania confirmed that Thompson sustained a left ankle sprain. Thankfully, an MRI on the ankle revealed no structural damage.

Assuming that the rehabilitation process goes smoothly, Thompson will likely make his return to the lineup for one of the following games:

  • @ the Orlando Magic (Wednesday, March 19)
  • @ the Miami Heat (Friday March 21)
  • vs. the Denver Nuggets (Sunday, March 23)
  • vs. the Atlanta Hawks (Tuesday, March 25)
