According to court documents, Vaughn performed online searches asking if it was “illegal to kill and illegal immigrant” just hours before the shooting took place. Vaughn would later confirm that Banos lacked legal status.

Authorities also said Vaugn moved Banos’ body after the murder and reportedly tried to make the wound appear self-inflicted.

Vaughn was given a bond of $500,000. His next court date is scheduled for March 10.
