‘It’s crazy’: Houston cancer warrior and dad react to secret service agent honor

13-year-old DJ Daniel is the country’s newest honorary secret service agent

Washington, D.C. – The nation’s newest honorary secret service agent is someone we’re familiar with at KPRC 2, 13-year-old Devarjaye ‘DJ’ Daniel.

DJ is a child cancer warrior, whose dream is to become a police officer.

We first met him in 2022, when he told us he had been sworn in by 10 law enforcement agencies.

His journey didn’t stop there.

On Tuesday night, DJ was sworn in by secret service director Sean Curran after President Donald Trump made a surprise announcement.

“I am asking our newest secret service director Sean Curran to make you an agent of the United States Secret Service,” said President Trump during a joint address.

DJ and his dad Theodis tell KPRC the announcement came as a complete surprise.

“They didn’t even tell me,” said DJ. “It’s crazy because everyone knew.”

Theodis can be seen on video lifting up his son, as everyone in the gallery cheers for DJ.

“I think my brain, all the juices, just stopped,” said Theodis. “When the crowd stood up, I just went on, grabbed him and picked him up so everybody could see him. I wanted him to know how much he’s loved as a little bitty, cancer fighting a police officer.

DJ said he’s now been sworn in by 909 law enforcement agencies and his goal is to get to 1000.

“Stay safe. Believe in God. Pray for kids that have cancer and stay out of cancer,” said DJ, when asked what message he has for the community.
