The shooting occurred on March 1 around 8 p.m. at a home off Cullen Boulevard near Airport Boulevard in Sunnyside. Based on preliminary details from police, the entire incident stemmed from a heated argument between Denzel Jamell Nixson, 36, and his wife, with whom he shares four children.

Investigators said at some point, Nixson’s wife called her unidentified father, 67, out of fear the argument would escalate. When the father-in-law arrived, police said Nixson shot him three times; once in the stomach, the arm, and the leg, respectively.

When responding officers and the Houston Fire Department reached the scene, the father-in-law was taken to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery. He is last said to be in stable condition.
