Going to Go Tejano Day at RodeoHouston? Everything you need to know

HOUSTON, Texas – Nine days at the Houston Rodeo are deemed “special,” and one is Go Tejano Day.

Go Tejano Day, or Go Texan Day in English, is a day that highlights the Latino culture and is one of the highest-attended days at the Houston Rodeo. This year’s is scheduled for March 16.

The Houston Rodeo said it started the Go Tejano Day committee in 1986 with only 15 volunteers. Four years later, the committee was recognized as a full committee with 316 members as of 2024. Raising more than $9.3 million since its inception, the committee hosts at least four fundraising events every year, including a fashion show, scholarship gala, mariachi invitational, gold tournament and tamale fundraisers. According to the Rodeo’s scholarship program, the Go Tejano committee has been the donor for 627 Rodeo Scholars. Of the Rodeo’s 2023 scholars, 30 percent were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2023, Los Tigres Del Norte broke the second-highest paid concert attendance record in Rodeo history at 75,595 people.

Besides Grupo Frontera headlining this year’s Go Tejano Day, the following events will also be held in celebration:

  • Mariachi Invitational will be hosted Saturday night at the Arena Theater at 7 p.m.; See more information here.
  • Mariachi Invitational Semi-finals is in the Hideout starting at 11 a.m.
  • Mariachis Invitational Finals will be held inside NRG Stadium before the concert.
  • Folkorico dancers will be at the Junction Stage at noon and at Miller Lite Ice House and Topo Chico Oasis at 2 p.m.
  • Fiesta Charra will be held in the NRG Center at 2 p.m.
  • Grito Competition – NEW (Schedule TBD)
    Kids and adults compete at the Junction Stage at 2:30 p.m.
    Topo Chico Oasis at 3:30 p.m. (adults only)
    Miller Lite Ice House at 4 p.m. (adults only)
    Winners receive a sombrero and Miller product at the Oasis and Ice House
  • Junction Stage will have entertainment starting at 11 a.m.
    DJ Diablo 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    Mexico Folklorico noon – 1 p.m.
    Annexado – 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.
    Nortenos Internacional – 3 – 4 p.m.
    Los Hermano Lara – 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
    Grupo Vendangi – 6 -7 p.m.
  • Hideout Entertainers will be:
    DJ Rulow 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
    Seleccion 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
    Reafinado 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
    Los Bohemios de Michoacan (Headliner) 10 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
  • The national anthem will be performed by Eduardo Antonio Trevino in NRG Stadium.
