Officials said the woman walked into the gas station around the same time as a man. When the woman pulled out a wad of cash to pay for her items, the man attempted to rip the money from her hands. A struggle ensued as she attempted to keep him from stealing it.

At some point during the skirmish, the man pulled out a gun and shot the woman. She pulled out a gun of her own and returned fire, but the man fled the scene on foot.

Officials with Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department rushed to the scene, and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to her torso. She is expected to survive.

The suspect remains at large at this time, and authorities believe he might be connected to another robbery in the area.
