HOUSTON – Selda Johnson-Nauls was on a routine errand when her Range Rover’s dashboard began malfunctioning as she drove on the highway.
Forced to pull over, she stopped at Meyerland Plaza Shopping Center. Moments later, her vehicle erupted into flames.
“I started exiting off the freeway as slow as I could. It wasn’t going any faster. I moved that car to Meyerland Plaza and got out of the car,” she said.
Moments later, after running toward a nearby store, her Range Rover had a “full-blown explosion.”
The fire continued until the vehicle was reduced to a charred heap of metal. Police and firefighters arrived at the scene and asked her the make and model of the car. She was unaware her 2019 Range Rover was under recall for engine and coolant issues.
“No i did not know. My granddaughter pulled it up and when she pulled it up, we saw so many that had caught on fire, full blown explosion, I was in shock,” she said.
Nauls is still without a vehicle and expressed her concern to not only take recalls seriously if you know of one on your vehicle, but also to really research a car before you buy it.
“I could’ve lost my life…I almost lost my life in that car,” she said.
KPRC 2 reached out to Range Rover for comment but so far have not heard back.
