Researchers at WalletHub needed to remind us how much our pockets are hurting from inflation with its latest report on where the most financially distressed residents reside.

The data ranged from several factors including average credit score, bankruptcy filings between December 2023 and 2024, respectively, across 100 of the largest U.S. cities.

The results spoke for themselves naming Houston the city with the most financially distressed people. Space City also had one of the highest numbers of accounts in distress compared to the fourth financial quarter in 2024, compared to 2023 and the number one search interest index for “Loans.”

SUGGESTED: Study says Houston has one of the lowest inflation problems, but do our pockets beg to differ?

Considering the whirlwind of natural disasters Houston residents experienced last year, coupled with ongoing inflation, these results shouldn’t be a surprise.

Last year alone, WalletHub named Texas as the number one state in financial distress. That’s why it didn’t surprise me to see Dallas, San Antonio, and Austin also made the top 10 most financially distressed.
