A man was arrested after he reported his car stolen in Harris County, only to later reveal that it had crashed. On Thursday, deputies responded to a crash on Memorial Chase Road, where they found a vehicle abandoned in a wooded area.

The car’s owner, Alexander Race, then called the police, claiming the vehicle had been stolen.

What really happened? Deputies say it turns out that Race’s wife had crashed the car while heading home from a bar. Instead of reporting the accident, Race went to pick up his wife and her friend, then decided to falsely report the vehicle as stolen.

Race was arrested and charged with making a false report. He was booked into the Harris County Jail and released on a $100 bond.
