Violent Weekend in Houston: Five shootings leave 3 people dead

HOUSTON – Houston experienced a violent weekend, with five shootings reported across the city since Saturday night. Three of those incidents turned fatal, including a deadly shooting on Zinn Drive, another on McGregor, and one more on Bagby Street.

Birthday Party Turns Violent

Saturday night, on Bradfield Manor Drive, a birthday party took a violent turn when a neighbor, identified as 63-year-old James Thompson, got into an argument with several people at the event. Police say Thompson pulled out a gun and began firing at people in the driveway, hitting the homeowner. Some of the party attendees returned fire, striking Thompson.

Both men were transported to the hospital and are expected to recover. Thompson is now facing multiple charges, including three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of tampering with evidence.

Domestic Dispute Leads to Shooting

In another incident near Leona Street and Chapman Street, just before midnight, Saturday, police say a man in his 30s was shot in the stomach by a woman he was dating. Officers arrived to find him conscious and speaking before he was transported to the hospital. His current condition is unknown.

Deadly Confrontation Over Car Break-Ins

One of the fatal shootings occurred early Sunday morning on Bagby Street in Midtown Houston. According to police, a man was attempting to break into vehicles when he was confronted by a group of people, including the owner of one of the cars. The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation, during which the suspect pulled out a gun and started shooting.

A 21-year-old man was killed, while another victim, 22, was shot in the upper body and rushed to a nearby hospital. The suspect fled the scene and remains on the run. Police describe him as a 5′8″ man with dreadlocks with yellow or gold tips, last seen wearing all black.

Local residents say car break-ins are a growing concern in the area.

“Every day, you can see glass in the streets. Once in a while, you see cars with broken windows all around the block,” said Alba Galindo, who lives near Bagby Street.

“I think there needs to be more patrols, especially in the odd hours of the evening when more people are out,” added Isabel Frechel, another resident.

Gas station argument turns deadly

Police say two men were arguing inside a gas station at the corner of Scott Street and North MacGregor Way. One man who police say appeared to be between age 20-28 pushed another man who appeared to be age 20-24.

The man that was pushed then pulled out a gun and shot and killed the other man. He then left the scene in a white Nissan, was wearing a black backpack, a grey sweatshirt, light blue shorts, and black and white shoes.

Police Searching for Suspects

Authorities are still searching for the suspect involved in the Bagby Street and Scott Street shootings.

Police are asking anyone with information about these shootings to come forward.
