On Wednesday, Feb. 12, deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office found 69-year-old Eva Peavy unresponsive inside her garage and her son, Joseph inside the home with a hammer.
Court documents reveal more details about how Peavy was killed. According to the records, Joseph strangled Peavy with his hands, hit her and then suffocated her with a plastic bag.
Deputies said Peavy’s stepson arrived at the home located on Ellesmere Drive near Woodforest Boulevard and Normandy Street around 9:30 p.m. after he found his stepmother in the garage with injuries.
The man said he saw Joseph inside the home holding a hammer, acting strangely, and not communicating.
KPRC 2 spoke with Peavy’s husband of 23 years, Curtis, who said Joseph had been struggling with mental health issues for years.
“It was some years ago, but they diagnosed him as schizophrenic bipolar and everything because he got into that bad stuff, that synthetic weed. What do they call it? Kush and so forth,” said Curtis.
Records show Joseph was arrested in 2016 for trying to choke his mother. That case was disposed of. Curtis said Eva wanted to take care of Joseph herself.
