Son shoots, kills father after argument at home in SE Houston

HOUSTON – Houston Police are investigating whether a deadly shooting between a father and son which happened on the southeast side of town was a case of self-defense.

Police said it happened just before 8 p.m. in the 500 block of Edgebrook Drive.

Lt. Larry Crowson said officers entered the home and found a man dead with at least one gunshot wound.

As officers were investigating, a man believed to be around 30-years-old came in and surrendered to police.

Crowson said the man told police the victim was his father and the two had been in an argument and the father had pulled out an axe. Fearing for his life, the man said he shot his father.

Investigators are talking to witnesses, including the grandmother of the suspect who was said to be in the house when the shooting happened.

Once the investigation is completed, police will refer it to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to see if they will accept charges or will refer it to a grand jury as a case of self-defense.
