As part of the “A Day Without Immigrants” protest on February 3, businesses from coast to coast are closing to demonstrate the impact of immigrants on the U.S. economy.

The protest has gained traction on social media, with numerous posts encouraging workers to stay home and customers to refrain from shopping. The goal is to demonstrate the impact of immigrants by showing what a day without their contributions would look like.

What is ‘A Day Without Immigrants’?

“A Day Without Immigrants” is a protest movement that first gained national attention in 2017. It was organized in response to proposed immigration policies and rhetoric perceived as hostile to immigrant communities. The movement called for immigrants across the country to abstain from work, school and shopping for a day.

The 2017 protest saw widespread participation, with many businesses closing or operating with reduced staff to show support. The impact was felt in various industries, particularly those heavily reliant on immigrant labor, such as restaurants, construction, and agriculture.
