A tragic fire in northeast Houston has firefighters once again urging residents to check their smoke alarms and have a fire escape plan.

On January 24, a home on Lila Street caught fire in the middle of the night. One resident made it out, but another didn’t. Firefighters found a victim inside, along with several pets that didn’t survive. Crews battled the flames and did what they could, but the damage was done.
