Resources are available for residents to contact city officials so they can address non-emergency situations.

Of course, if it is an emergency, you should dial 911. But in all other circumstances, here are some places and people you can call for assistance.

Dial 311

The City of Houston launched the 311 Houston Service Helpline in 2001. Those within city limits can dial the number for help with traffic fines and sewer concerns to pothole problems and neighborhood complaints. Trained agents are available to assist those who call with questions or concerns.

The 311 service connects citizens with City of Houston departments for assistance with a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Reporting potholes, streetlight outages, and traffic signal issues
  • Garbage collection and recycling services
  • Water leaks or sewer issues
  • Graffiti removal
  • Permits and public health concerns
  • Other neighborhood issues or general city information

Houston’s 311 helpline is usually available 24/7 and can also be accessed through the Houston 311 mobile app and online at the City of Houston website.

Contact your city councilmember

Sometimes, issues require government officials to get involved. That is when you get in touch with the city councilmember from your district.

Here are the names, numbers, and city email addresses of all the current Houston city councilmembers:
