Steinberg entered the Houston Fire Department in December 1990, and served 34 years, most recently assigned to station 83. An Engineer Operator/Paramedic is assigned to a Medic Unit, which provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) for prehospital care, according to the department.
“It’s a tragedy that we lost EOP Steinberg as he entered the phase down program and was looking forward to retirement,” said Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz. “He was preparing to join his family in Maryland before his untimely passing. My heart is with his wife, Kathi, his family, and his firefighter family.”
During his career, EOP Steinberg was assigned to stations 68, 73, 78, and 83.
Days after his passing, family and friends gathered for a memorial event that was previously planned as a retirement party.
The Firefighter Support Network has been assisting the Steinberg family since his passing. Funeral arrangements are pending.
