‘I saw people running... screaming’: Shots fired at Walmart in Katy by angry former store employee

Suspect taken into custody

A shooting scene is being investigated at a Walmart grocery store in Katy.

After KPRC 2 first heard about the situation from a viewer who was concerned about the police presence outside of the store, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed that there was an active shooting scene at the Walmart located at 22850 Morton Ranch Road.

Nessa Love sent footage of the scene in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office officials later confirmed that there was no further threat in the area.

According to HCSO, a disgruntled former Walmart employee returned to the store and was quickly escorted out. Upon exiting, he pulled out a gun and fired shots towards the freeway. No injuries have been reported from these gunshots.

After the suspect left the scene in a vehicle, HCSO deputies stopped his car and took him into custody.

KPRC 2′s Bill Barajas spoke to Angelica Ventura, who was outside of a restaurant across the street from the Walmart during the shooting. She left the scene almost immediately, because she was with her children and scared.

“[I was] sitting in my truck and heard three pops,” Ventura said. “[I] saw people running out of Walmart and screaming.”
