HOUSTON – A man is dead and a woman in the hospital after a shooting at an apartment in the Fourth Ward Thursday.
Lt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department said it happened around 1 p.m. in the 1400 block of Bailey Street.
Crowson said there was some kind of a disturbance either inside of an apartment or on the front porch. A police source later confirmed with KPRC 2’s Bryce Newberry the disturbance was an argument over a Xbox.
During the incident, a man pulled out a gun and shot the man and woman, who was struck in the back, according to dispatch audio provided by Broadcastify.
Multiple people heard the gunshots and called 911.
Both the victims were taken to a hospital. The man died after arriving. The woman remains hospitalized, but is expected to survive.
A neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the fight, in which someone seems to say, “Why you took that man’s f****** game?” before another voice can be heard seeming to say, “They both going to jail, how about that?”
After the shooting, the camera captured a man in a lime green hoodie running away, but police haven’t called him a suspect.
Police say the shooter arrived in a Hyundai vehicle. At least two people were inside the vehicle, including the driver and shooter. The two fled the scene after the shooting, leaving the vehicle behind.
A gun was found in the vehicle by police after the shooting.
HPD says the man who died was in his 20s. His identity has not been released.
Authorities are combing through surveillance video of the area to try and learn more information.
