Deputy Jesus “Jesse” Vargas a dedicated law enforcement officer who gave 17 years of service to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, will be laid to rest on January 20.
Deputy Vargas was tragically killed on Wednesday while serving a warrant in Houston. The suspect involved was later killed in a shootout with police in southwest Houston.

How to pay your respects
The following services are open to the public to honor Deputy Vargas:
- Sunday, January 19: Public viewing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grace Church, 14505 Gulf Freeway, Houston.
- Monday, January 20:
- Public viewing: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Funeral service: Begins at 12 p.m.
- Both events will take place at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 110 E South Street, Alvin.
Following the funeral service, Deputy Vargas will be laid to rest with full honors at South Park Cemetery, 1310 N Main Street, Pearland. This part of the ceremony is also open to the public.
