They said one of the cars left and the other car stayed at the scene.
When officers arrived and went to talk to the man involved, they said he got out of the car with a gun in his hand.
“He exited the vehicle with a firearm in his hand,” said Assistant Chief Wyatt Martin. “Officers gave him commands to drop the firearm. He did not.”
Police said officers told the man to drop the gun, but instead, they said he refused and turned toward the officers.
Two officers opened fire and shot the man at least once.
He was taken to the hospital and was expected to recover.
“We do believe alcohol could’ve been a factor, some type of impairment could’ve been a factor,” said Martin.
Investigators said the officers are a 14-year police veteran and an 8-year police veteran.
As per police policy, the officers have been placed on administrative leave.
The crash and shooting are under investigation.
