In Texas, substitute teachers don’t need to be licensed like regular teachers, which makes the profession more accessible. However, the process and qualifications for becoming a substitute can vary from district to district.

In Klein ISD, here’s what you need to know to get started:

  • Educational Requirement: Applicants must have at least 60 college credits from an accredited institution.
  • Virtual Interview: If you haven’t worked for Klein ISD in the past two years, you’ll be invited to complete a virtual interview to discuss your qualifications.
  • Background Check/Fingerprints: All substitutes must undergo a background check and fingerprinting for safety purposes.
  • Orientation: New substitutes are required to complete a self-paced virtual orientation and attend an in-person onboarding session.
  • Start Assignments: Once all requirements are met, substitutes can begin taking assignments across Klein ISD campuses.
