HOUSTON – It may be cold this week in Houston but the heat was turned up for a lot of fans as beloved actors, stars of The Best Man, and co-founders of a new whiskey, Morris Chestnut and Harold Perrineau, stopped in the Bayou City.
ICYMI: Actors behind ‘The Best Man’ to host bottle signing, meet-and-greet in Houston this week
While promoting their new alcohol, Sable Bourbon Whiskey, and celebrating the historical film The Best Man’s 25th anniversary, the co-founders spoke with KPRC 2′s Senior Digital Content Producer Brittany Taylor at the Total Wine and More in the Heights.
Here are a few questions that were asked in the interview:
Brittany: “When you hop off the plane, where is the first place you’re going to?”
Morris: “For me, because we don’t have it in California, Pappadeaux. I like to eat a lot of greasy fried food at Pappadeaux.”
Harold: “This is my first time in Houston, so I have no reference.”
While I recommended that BBQ in Houston is a must-have, our Digital Content Specialist Ninfa Saavedra recommended iconic and Houston stable, Frenchy’s, as he took note of the business.
Brittany: “How does it feel to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Best Man in Houston?”
Morris: “Oh, it’s great, first of all, it’s an honor and a privilege to have a 25th anniversary of something like that and still be with people we love and have a good time with and then, also have the start of the brand 25 years ago.”
Brittany: “What was the inspiration behind the bourbon?”
Harold: “Each time in The Best Man if you go back and look when we were all together, like card games, we always have a brown liquor. So, when we thought about doing it, we tried them all, we did brives, we did whiskeys, we did bourbons, we did more bourbons and then we came up with Sable.”
Brittany: “What was the inspiration for this specific bourbon that you chose?”
Morris: “It was incredible, so we had tastings and it was all anonymous and we would write down what we tasted on a piece of paper and at the end, we all liked the same one!”
Brittany: “So how many did it taste?”
Harold: “There was a lot of tasting and a lot of Advil.”
Harold also shared a recipe for those who want something a little sweet and sour.
“You know those whiskey sours? You can do a bourbon sour! It’s like egg whites, lemon, simple syrup, put it in a shaker and throw it over ice -- it creates a nice little foam on top and on top of it throw a little grenadine, it’s really delicious.”
And for the last question, what would be the perfect food to pair with the Sable bourbon?
For Morris? He kept it classy and demur by recommending a nice steak with the bourbon.
Harold on the other hand, since most of us love our barbecue, he recommended Sable with barbecue as a nice paring.
Fans who are 21+ will be able to purchase a bottle of Sable Bourbon Whiskey (SRP $61.99/750ml) at selected locations in Houston.
