HOUSTON – Houston residents have a recurring joke about how the city freaks out whenever it snows. And after the 2021 Winter Freeze, the laughter stopped for justifiable reasons.

With temperatures expected to drop as a strong Arctic front moves in on Sunday, eyebrows are certainly being raised. especially on the heels of a tumultuous weather year. According to Chief Meteorologist Anthony Yanez though, it won’t be pipe-bursting cold in Houston “despite the buzz on social media.”
“Our northern counties could see temps drop into the teens next week, so if you’re up there, make sure to protect exposed pipes. For Houston, it’ll be a cold stretch, with morning lows near freezing from Tuesday through Friday.

Inside the Beltway, it could get as low as 30° or warm up to 38°. Either way—it’s cold and this will be when little ones are heading back to school on Tuesday and Wednesday i.e., the coldest days of the week.
In a statement to KPRC 2, officials at the Energy Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) said they are “closely monitoring the winter weather conditions” but nothing appears to be out of the ordinary.
“ERCOT is closely monitoring the winter weather conditions moving into Texas next week. Grid conditions are expected to be normal at this time.
“The public can view real-time and future grid conditions with our dashboards on ERCOT.com and our mobile app. They can also follow us on social media (Facebook, X, Instagram, and LinkedIn), and sign up for TXANS notifications and grid emergency alerts.”
