Helicopter crashes near Galveston Seawall

Emergency crews responded to a tourist helicopter accident near the Seawall in Galveston on Tuesday afternoon.

The helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff near 517 Seawall Blvd. in Galveston, Texas, near Stewart Beach and McDonald’s. No one was hurt.

According to Galveston police, the helicopter went down near its takeoff location.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) are investigating.

The pilot, whose identity has not been released, was rescued from the helicopter.

The FAA provided the following statement:

A Robinson R44 helicopter crashed during lift off at Galveston Helicopter Airport in Texas around 12:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Only the pilot was on board. The FAA will investigate.
