HOUSTON – A young man in northeast Harris County is getting additional charges tacked on after officials said he tried to disarm a deputy during his arrest.

It happened Saturday when officers on S Sam Houston Parkway East pulled over David Banda, 21, for reckless driving.
While he was being detained, Constable Mark Herman with Harris County Precinct 4, said in a news release Banda was advised charges were accepted. That’s when he “slipped his restraints to the front of his body and attempted to disarm the deputy.”

During the scuffle, another officer tried to intervene, but Banda hit that deputy in the stomach and face before he was subdued.
The 21-year-old is now charged with attempting to disarm a police officer and assault on a public servant. He is being held on a $60,000 bond at the Harris County Jail.
