5 tornadoes touched down in Greater Houston area, ranging from EF-0 to EF-1

What a wild year for natural disasters in Texas.

The National Weather Service confirmed that five tornadoes touched down in Southeast Texas from Thursday’s severe storms.

  • An EF-1 tornado touched down in southwest Houston, with winds reaching 90 mph. There was structural damage to some homes.
  • An EF-1 tornado touched down in El Campo, with winds reaching 95 mph. There was structural damage to a barn.
  • EF-0 confirmed in the north of Liberty County, with winds reaching 75 mph, and structural damage to at least one home.
  • Northwest of Dayton in Liberty County, a EF-0 tornado was confirmed, with winds reaching 60 mph.
  • And lastly, an EF-0 tornado touched down in the Lake Houston/Huffman area, with winds reaching 60 mph.

Many viewers also shared their photos and videos of the tornadoes across Southeast Texas including Liberty County and one tornado crossing Lake Houston. Two homes were also damaged in southwest Houston by the tornado.

The NWS will release more details on these tornados, such as the path widths and lengths, as they continue to investigate the area over the next several days.
