HOUSTON – A man was put behind bars Sunday night when Houston police said he stabbed a woman shortly after he got off a METRO bus with her and robbed her.

It happened around 8:40 p.m. when investigators said an unidentified woman got off the bus near Shepherd and Memorial Drive. An unidentified man also followed her and robbed her at knifepoint before stabbing her several times.
Responding officers treated the woman’s injuries at the scene before rushing her to a local hospital where she was last said to be undergoing surgery and was in serious condition. Her attacker, meanwhile, ran away but based on the description they received, police were able to get ahold of him with help from a K9 unit and helicopter off Center Street near Washington Avenue.

Investigators also said they found evidence linking the stabber to an armed robbery earlier in the day. They were able to recover the knife used to stab the woman, but as of this writing, not the gun he used in a robbery that occurred around 6:30 p.m. hours earlier.
An investigation remains underway and METRO police are helping HPD.
