MAGNOLIA, Texas – A suspect is dead and a deputy has been injured following a shooting in Magnolia, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to reports of a disturbance between family members in the 26000 block of Aberdeen Drive around 4:45 a.m.
When deputies arrived, they said they found a man who refused to follow their commands and started resisting arrest, even punching one of the deputies in the face. The deputy stepped back after being hit and used his Taser to try to subdue the man, but it didn’t work. Then, as a second deputy moved in to make the arrest, the man tried to grab the deputy’s weapon. Seeing this, the first deputy, who had been punched, stepped in and shot the suspect.
Both the suspect and the deputy who was punched were transported to the hospital. The suspect died at the hospital.
The shooting is under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers.
The suspect has not yet been identified.
