80-100 people displaced after fire at N. Harris County apartment complex

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The Red Cross is providing assistance to between 80 and 100 people who were displaced after an early morning fire at an apartment complex in north Harris County Sunday.

The fire happened at the Ashford Santa Cruz apartments near the intersection of Kuykendahl Road and FM 1960.

Authorities say they received word of the fire around 4:18 a.m. The Klein Fire Department responded one-third of a specific part of the complex involved with heavy fire.

As Klein firefighters worked to battle the flames, members of the Ponderosa Fire Department went door-to-door, ensuring everyone was evacuated.

Part of the roof ended up collapsing as crews worked to battle the flames. The fire was knocked out at 5:20 a.m.

The Harris County Fire Marshal says a total of 24 apartment units were affected by the fire. There were no reports of injuries.
