New video of dog attack sent to KPRC 2 from Liberty County community raises concerns

LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas – On Friday afternoon, Maria Arroyo described to KPRC 2 Investigates how her two dogs were attacked and killed shortly after getting out of their home in the community of Santa Fe in Liberty County.

The dogs were attacked by abandoned dogs.

Another attack happened this week with residents sending us video of a pack of dogs attacking one in her yard. Another video, captured at a different time, shows dogs harassing a child on their way to catch their school bus.

Residents in the community did not hold back when asked to rank the challenges of the abandoned dogs in their community on a 1 to 10 scale, “Over 10,” said Margarita Mendoza.

Mendoza’s two German Shepherds had no problem introducing themselves to our camera, but these dogs have a home. However, several others we saw did not. Dogs were milling around from one yard to another, clearly unclear of where to go, “There is a lot ‘perros’ on this street that they don’t know where to go, because they have no house,” said Mendoza.

Residents say the problem begins with outsiders who come down their streets and dump their dogs.

There is a commissioners court meeting on Tuesday and the issues are expected to be brought up by at least one county commissioner as well as area residents according to multiple individuals.
