Woman wanted for deadly hit-and-run in Harris County captured trying to leave the state at airport

A woman is behind bars after trying to book a flight out of state, all while she was wanted for a deadly hit-and-run in Harris County.

The fatal crash happened at the intersection of Airtex Dr. and Brundage Dr. early Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, the suspect hit a cyclist and fled the scene. EMS personnel responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the location. His identity has not yet been released.

Investigators confirmed the driver’s identity as 22-year-old Nyla Gamboa. She was arrested at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and charged with failure to stop and render aid in connection with a death.

Constables announced they located the suspect vehicle in the Timber Crossing neighborhood near Willow Briar Dr. and Bayberry Meadows Ln. The SUV was found running but unoccupied.

Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office were actively searching for the suspect vehicle, described as a black SUV with front-end damage.

Gamboa is now in custody as authorities continue to investigate the incident.
