The Houston Fire Department has announced the funeral arrangements for Marcelo “Ox” Garcia III, the firefighter who died in the line of duty late Wednesday night.
Garcia, 42, was killed responding to the fire on Supply Row near Polk on the city’s east side. While battling the large blaze, a wall collapsed, while firefighters were inside, injuring Garcia and another firefighter. Garcia was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.

Garcia served with HFD for 10 years, the last six of which were with Station 23.
On Sunday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m., Garcia’s body will be escorted by his fellow HFD first responders from the medical examiner’s office to the Forest Park Lawndale funeral home located at 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023. Staging will begin at 8 a.m.
The procession will take the following route:
- Start east from 1860 Old Spanish Trail
- Left onto SH-288 northbound
- Exit to I-45 southbound
- Exit Wayside and turn left
- Turn right on Lawndale
- End at 6900 Lawndale
A public viewing will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Forest Park Lawndale funeral home. There will also be a private viewing reserved for Garcia’s friends and family.
The public funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 9 a.m. at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart located at 1111 St. Joseph Pkwy., Houston, TX 77002.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire has asked Houstonians to turn on their vehicle headlights Wednesday to honor the fallen public servant.
On Saturday, a Houston woman was arrested and charged with arson in connection to the fire at the warehouse.
