HOUSTON – A SW Houston resident is fed up with the city’s response to what he claims is their own mistake.
Patrick Cole contacted KPRC 2 through our Help Desk to notify us about a dangerous sidewalk near his home.
Cole says the sidewalk was damaged by city employees picking up trash shortly after Hurricane Beryl.
He also said he’s contacted the city several times over the past few months, but nothing has been done to resolve it.
In a community that has a strong population of seniors, young kids and joggers, having such an obstruction in the middle of the sidewalk creates a huge hazard.
“You’re just waiting for an accident to happen,” Cole said.
Cole added that he believes the responsibility is being passed between departments, but no actual action is being taken.
“They just say they’re progressively sending it up the ladder to figure out who wants to pay for it, whether it’s gonna be the city or the subcontractor,” he said.
As of 1 p.m.: Spoke with Cole and reached out to Solid Waste Management to get answers, but they have not responded.
As of 2 p.m.: Solid Waste Management responded, saying they will look into the issue.
They provided KPRC 2′s Bill Barajas with the following statement:
The property damage claim filed on September 17, 2024, for 8518 Ferris Dr. has been investigated by the City, and the service request was closed on October 1, 2024. Following the closure, the claim was submitted to the City’s debris contractor removal monitor for further review.
At this time, the claim is actively being processed, and a decision on how it will be handled is expected soon. Additionally, the Solid Waste Management Department is working on a solution for the repair within the next 30 days. We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.
