Teen girl arrested, 17-year-old boy wanted in connection with July fatal shooting of 14-year-old

Houston police are searching for Joshua Garcia, 17, after arresting a teenage girl in connection with the July shooting of 14-year-old Abraham Choukair, who was found dead in a parked car.

Garcia, who remains at large, is charged with murder. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Sept. 5, and police are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

The arrested teenage girl, whose identity is not being released due to her age, has been charged with capital murder and referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities.

The fatal shooting happened on July 20 at 12:45 p.m. when Houston Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 8800 block of Hammerly Boulevard.

Officers found Choukair unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Choukair had been seen talking to the female suspect shortly before the shooting. The girl was followed by an unknown male suspect, later identified as Garcia.

Both suspects fled the scene, with surveillance footage capturing Garcia running further into the apartment complex alongside the female.

After releasing surveillance photos of the suspect on July 22, investigators were able to identify Garcia as the shooter. He was formally charged on Sept. 5, but has remained on the run.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate Garcia and are asking the public for help. Anyone with information on Garcia’s whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
